Hugo Eugenio Pratt (Rimini, 15 June 1927 – Lausanne, 20 August 1995) was an Italian illustrator, cartoonist, writer and actor.
His Corto Maltese is one of the most famous characters in Italian and international comics. Pratt himself is considered one of the greatest comic book authors of all time.

Sergeant Kirk, El Sargento Kirk or Sgt. Kirk is a fictional character who is the protagonist of a Western comic book series of the same name written by the Argentine Héctor Germán Oesterheld and illustrated by the Italian Hugo Pratt.
The series, originally created in Argentina during the so-called "golden age of Argentine comics", was published in issue #225 of the weekly comics magazine Misterix on January 9, 1953. Sargento Kirk continued its publication until issue #475 on December 20, 1957, when Oesterheld founded his own publishing house, Ediciones Frontera. Publication continued until 1961 in the magazines Frontera Extra and Hora Cero Suplemento Semana, illustrated by Pratt, Jorge Moliterni, Horacio Porreca and Gisela Dexter. In 1973, the series was revived in the magazine Billiken with drawings by Gustavo Trigo.
In Italy, a comics magazine was named after him, Sgt. Kirk, published since 1967 by Florenzo Ivaldi. The comics series was also published in Rin Tin Tin & Sgt. Kirk, published by Editrice Cenisio in the seventies.
