Mickey Mouse in Dialect: A Special Issue to Celebrate Local Languages

On the occasion of National Dialect Day, celebrated on January 17 , the weekly magazine "Topolino" has decided to pay homage to local Italian languages ​​with a special initiative. Issue 3608 , due out on January 15, 2025, will be available in five different editions, each containing a story translated into a different dialect: Campanian, Sicilian, Lombard, and Tuscan, in addition to the standard Italian version.

The story featured in this initiative is entitled "Uncle Scrooge and the PDP 6000" and will be adapted into various dialects to bring readers closer to the linguistic traditions of the different Italian regions. This editorial choice aims to enhance and preserve dialects, recognized as intangible cultural heritage of great importance.

The National Union of Pro Loco of Italy (Unpli), promoter of the National Dialect Day established in 2013, underlines the importance of these initiatives. President Antonino La Spina declared: "Every single expression in dialect is a vehicle of the knowledge and traditions of our territories. Dialects and local languages ​​are therefore indispensable for the transmission of these cultural heritages between generations" .

For collectors and enthusiasts, each edition of "Topolino 3608" will be available at a price of 3.50 euros and, presumably, will be distributed in the regions of reference for each dialect , while the Italian version will be available throughout the country.
