Color Texons in a New Format: Heresy or Evolution?
Are you ready to see the legendary Texoni in a new light? Starting from March 22nd, the famous Tex special albums will be back on newsstands with a new look: the classic Bonelli format (16x21 cm) and in color!
The new SuperTex Speciale series debuts with Tex the Great!, a 1988 masterpiece by Claudio Nizzi and Guido Buzzelli. A release that promises to spark debate between black and white purists and “Technicolor” fans.
The Texons: a piece of history
Born in 1988 to celebrate Tex's 40th anniversary, Texoni have become a regular event for readers. Large-format albums, often entrusted to internationally renowned illustrators such as Magnus, Ivo Milazzo, Joe Kubert, Enrique Breccia , and many others.
But the question arises spontaneously: Texoni in reduced format and in colour… is it a tribute or a betrayal?
Is Tex's soul lost in the colors?
Long-time readers of Tex know well that black and white is an integral part of his charm. The sharp chiaroscuro, the deep shadows, the dynamism of the scenes… all this could change with coloring.
But beware! This is not the first foray of Texoni into the world of color: in 2011, La Repubblica published a color version in the "Collezione Storica a Colori Tex Speciale". This new initiative by Bonelli aims to make Texoni more accessible and usable even to those who have never browsed an issue of this epic series.
A new way of living Tex
The first volume, "Tex the Great!", takes us back to the forests of Oregon, where Tex and Carson face a mysterious intrigue involving lumberjacks, suspicious incidents and a band of dangerous adversaries. A classic story, perfect for inaugurating this new editorial adventure.
The series will continue with new releases every four months , allowing readers to rediscover the Texoni in a more pocket-sized and modern format.
Furthermore, this new quarterly series will reprint the giant Tex albums, the "Texoni", in color and in the classic Bonellian format, offering a unique opportunity to collect these legendary stories in a renewed guise.
Conclusion: nostalgia vs innovation?
Bonelli's initiative has the flavour of a gamble: will it be a success or a heresy for the more traditional fans? Will colour bring out new nuances in Tex's stories or will it take away the immortal charm of black and white?
Tex is ready to ride once again… Are you ready to follow him on this new adventure?
