Mickey Mouse 1370: Does it exist or never existed?
Did you know that Topolino 1370 is the only issue ever released?
Curious, isn't it? Why was Topolino 1370 never published?
This issue is the only one in the long history of the weekly magazine that was never published due to a strike in February 1982. Unlike other occasions, a double issue was not published. Topolino 1369 of February 21 was followed directly by issue 1371 of March 7, thus leaving a gap in the numbering.
What was released in place of Topolino 1370?
Even though the weekly issue never saw the light of day, the story "Uncle Scrooge and the Negromani Corindoni" , which was supposed to be published, appeared in Topolino Speciale Estate n. 1. Even though the comic was missing, the main content was not lost!
Is there a 1370 version of Mickey Mouse?
Yes, but it is the result of an extraordinary initiative by Papersera . In May 2013, to celebrate the milestone of 3000 issues of Topolino, Papersera, not yet constituted as an association, published a special volume on the occasion of the Anafi market exhibition, rewarding the weekly magazine itself for its long history.
On that occasion, the Papersera team made an "economic effort" to create a real surprise: an album, identical to those of the magazine, which finally filled the void left by Topolino 1370. This special issue, created and produced at the expense of volunteers, included a series of unpublished and curiosities collected to create the feeling of an authentic issue of the 80s.
How much is an unofficial copy worth?
Usually, auctions on eBay for the unofficial Topolino 1370 often exceed €500, and in some cases they have reached over €1,000. An impressive value for a comic that technically does not exist!
In your opinion, is it fair that an unofficial copy can reach these prices? If the answer surprised you, now you know!
