Donald Duck Got Married! The Forgotten Story of the Wedding of the Century
As you well know, in the world of Mickey Mouse and the Disney universe there are unwritten but sacred rules: none of the main characters can get married. This rule, decided by Disney itself
Who said Donald and Daisy would be forever engaged? In a little-known story, first published in Brazil in 1987 and then in Italy in August 1988 , our favorite duck finally took the big step: he married Daisy! If it seems incredible to you, it's only because this story has remained hidden in the folds of time, yet it tells of an event that shook Duckburg and its imagination.

"Donald Duck and the Bachelor Party"
(original title: O Casamento Do Pato Donald ) is one of the very few stories in which we see Donald Duck getting married, but not only that: the story takes us beyond the wedding, showing us what happens in their life as a couple. The comic tells how Daisy, fed up with her boyfriend's indecision, "manipulates" him a little to make him propose. After a series of events, including a (fake) marriage proposal to Gladstone that makes Donald faint from shock, our duck finally decides to ask her hand.
The news spreads throughout the Disney universe: Uncle Scrooge, of course, immediately tries to cut the wedding expenses, while Daisy Duck is already dreaming of her ideal honeymoon. Not only Duckburg, but also Mouseton is involved in this epochal event: even Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse make an appearance among the guests.
The ceremony takes place in the majestic Cathedral of Notre Dame (already seen in a famous story by Carl Barks), and the two finally tie the knot. But it doesn't end there! The comic gives us a taste of what could have happened in their married life: a honeymoon not exactly dreamy, small marital arguments and even the arrival of sextuplets (yes, you read that right, six!). From an eternally engaged couple, we find ourselves following the adventures of two parents grappling with the daily challenges of family life.
Of course, there's a final twist: it all turns out to be Donald's dream, as he fell asleep while looking at old photos with Daisy. When he wakes up and tells her about the dream, Daisy's reaction is hilarious, culminating in a comical scene that suggests that... maybe the wedding will really remain just a dream!
Curiosities for enthusiasts :
- The story, drawn by four different artists, is known for some stylistic oddities, with Donald Duck appearing muscular in some panels and Daisy Duck very tall!
- It is one of the few Disney stories that explicitly addresses the theme of marriage and pregnancy (with Daisy Duck even becoming a mother!).
- Notre Dame Cathedral is a tribute to the legendary Scrooge McDuck adventure "The Cathedral Mysteries" by Carl Barks.
This little gem from the past is a fun narrative experiment that, unfortunately, has fallen into oblivion, published only once in Italy. Who knows, maybe one day we will see Donald Duck take the plunge again for real. In the meantime, we can only dream!
