Lo Sapevi? Milo Manara Ha Disegnato una Cover di Wonder Woman!

Did You Know? Milo Manara Designed a Wonder Woman Cover!

If you thought you'd seen Wonder Woman in every possible guise, you may have missed one of the most fascinating interpretations ever! The famous comics maestro Milo Manara has in fact created a special cover for the first issue of Wonder Woman by Panini DC Comics Italia, leaving his mark with his unmistakable style.

An Amazon Juliet: The Magic of Manara's Cover

Manara's illustration for the cover of Wonder Woman #1 was pure visual poetry: the DC heroine was depicted on an iconic balcony in Verona, in a pose that directly recalled Juliet from William Shakespeare's play. A bold, yet absolutely fascinating juxtaposition that fused pop culture with the romance of classic literature.

Here's what Manara himself had to say about his creation:

“Considering the amount of people from all over the world who crowd the courtyard of Juliet's house in Verona to contemplate her famous balcony, it is undeniable that Juliet is a true pop heroine. Of course, her origins are ancient and illustrious, but she is certainly no less a pop heroine than Wonder Woman. Perhaps even Shakespeare would have agreed. If he did not, I sincerely ask his forgiveness.”

Words that demonstrated once again Manara's ability to transform a pop culture icon into a timeless work of art.

A Collector's Edition: Regular and Museum Edition

Panini Comics made this release even more special with two versions of the cover of Wonder Woman #1 :

  • Regular Edition : the standard version, with Manara's cover printed in premium quality.

  • Museum Edition : a limited edition available only in selected comic book stores, with alternative graphics that made it a true collector's item.

Both were available from June 25, 2020 , and given the hype surrounding the cover, they sold out in record time!

Panini Comics City Editions: An Italian Tour of DC Icons

But the surprise didn't end there! Wonder Woman #1 was part of the special City Edition initiative , with which Panini Comics wanted to pay homage to some of the most beautiful Italian cities through exclusive covers dedicated to the greatest DC heroes. Other internationally renowned artists, such as Lee Bermejo, Simone Bianchi, Giorgio Cavazzano and Gabriele Dell'Otto , had given their contribution, creating breathtaking covers set in various Italian cities.

The Arrival of the DC Universe Branded Panini

June 4, 2020 marked a historic date for DC fans in Italy: Panini Comics officially launched its DC comics line, with ten main series published in high-quality formats. Among the most anticipated titles were Batman, Superman, Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Harley Quinn and of course Wonder Woman .

With this cover, Manara not only paid homage to one of the most beloved heroines of all time, but also started a new chapter in the history of DC in Italy. The only question now is: were you able to get your hands on one of these editions before they disappeared from the shelves?
